After a long day full of fishing and boating on Cottonwood Lake, off-roading and horseback riding nearby mountain trails, or simply relaxing and watching wildlife, even the most dedicated adventure seekers need a place to lay their head for the night.

Less than a half hour from Buena Vista lies Cottonwood Lake and a host of outdoor recreation options. Just beyond the lake is Cottonwood Lake Campground, where meticulously maintained private sites tucked between aspens with lake views are not uncommon.

The two dozen campsites are available by first-come, first-serve for a rate of $20.00. The campground gets busy and often fills up during summer weekends. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, but there are no hookups. Each site comes with a picnic table and fire ring, and there are vault toilets as well as water spigots in the facility. Sites also have a flat pad to pitch a tent, and most campers will wake up with a view of the lake and surrounding mountains.

The Cottwood Lake Campground is open from late May to early September.
