The Pawnee National Grassland stretches over nearly 200,000 acres (much of it mixed with private land) in the north-central part of of Colorado. This is not a park with many developed facilities, but it has some very beautiful and peaceful places to visit. Birding is very popular, and there is a self-guided birding drive through the prairie. The only campground within the grassland is Crow Valley, and it is a wonderful place of solitude and beauty.

This campground is quite primitive with minimal amenities. There are only 10 campsites (five of which can be reserved online), no hookups, and no flush toilets or showers. Most of the sites are long enough for a large RV and quite level, some are in full sun, and some are mostly under the trees along the creek. A short trail into the prairie leaves from the campground, and there is a small display of farm implements which are in pretty poor condition. The real draw of this campground is that it is not very busy, particularly during the week, and it is a very peaceful place to get away from it all.

Note: A highly-recommended side trip is to the Pawnee Buttes, where an excellent trail leads through the Chalk Bluffs raptor nesting area to the base of the buttes.
