Many of the trees around Glacier Basin Campground's C Loop, D Loop, and Group Loop have been removed because of the Pine Beetle epidemic. However, this has opened up majestic views of the surrounding rugged and craggy peaks that comprise the Continental Divide, and the beauty of the alpenglow on these Front Range mountains at sunrise is virtually uncontested.

This campground, accessible most easily via the Beaver Meadows park entrance, provides a variety of amenities including firewood for sale, clean bathrooms, and an amphitheater, at which many ranger programs are hosted in the summertime.

The park's shuttle bus services the campground, and the Park and Ride, the shuttle system's main hub, is just across the street. The shuttle system provides access to many of the most popular trailheads around Rocky Mountain National Park and the town of Estes Park, and it is integral on summer days when the parking lots at the trailheads are chock full.

A hiking trail to Sprague Lake is accessible directly from the campground and is just under a mile long, making for an excellent morning leg-stretching walk or a nice way to cap off an adventurous day in the park.

Note: Glacier Basin Campground is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Go to Recreation.gov for reservations or call the National Park Ranger Station at 970.586.1206 for seasonal date specifics.
