Summit County’s slogan is “Colorado’s playground” and Lowry Campground, situated at 9,330-feet in the heart of White River National Forest, makes a fitting base camp for recreation and relaxation.

Located between Breckenridge and Keystone off Swan Mountain Road, the campground features 27 sites, 14 of which can be reserved. 23 of them come with electrical hookups for Rvs (maximum length 32-feet) and there are three walk-in tent sites. Rates are $20.00 per night and electric sites are $5.00 more.

Each site comes with a picnic table, fire ring and charcoal grill. There are two vault toilet restrooms, five water spigots on the grounds, but no showers at the campground.

To the north, Dillon Reservoir is a paradise for anglers in search of rainbow, as well as brown trout and boaters can enjoy generally calm waters during the morning hours. The Summit County paved trail system provides cyclists a dedicated path free of motor vehicle traffic to ride on the road or there are hundreds of miles of mountain bike trails nearby to choose from as well. Wildlife viewing is also an option as deer, elk, fox, and bighorn sheep are native to the area.

While Lowry’s smaller size and panoramic mountain views are an idyllic setting to camp, if no spaces are available, Prospector Campground down the road has several dozen sites to choose from. Both campgrounds are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
