Just outside the Colorado National Monument is a mountain biker's singletrack paradise known as the Lunch Loops at Tabeguache. In the early days of mountain biking when Fruita's trails were in their infancy, Grand Junction wanted to join the singletrack craze as well. Local riders have been using Jeep road loops outside of town to carve out primitive trails for some time, already creating the genesis of what is now the Lunch Loops at Tabeguache. The mountain bike world is filled with stories like this one, where a few innovative souls pioneer their way into the wilderness with bikes in tow and carve out what eventually becomes an established and storied trail systems. It’s a truly magical and innovative sport.

There are several ways to climb up the Lunch Loop Trail System, and it is best to plan a route before you go. The trail described here takes you up Curt's Lane and around the Miramonte Rim Trail for a great ride with expansive views. It’s a bit of a strain to climb up Curt’s Lane, but the reward is crusing atop the plateau and rolling over some nice technical rocky terrain. Most of the rides here offer plenty of technical challenges for the best riders and a solid introduction to obstacles and maneuvering for the novice. The next few miles offer great rolling singletrack passing by multiple trail junctions with curious names like Ali Ali, Leftover Lane, and Clunker until you finish the ride around the Miramonte Rim. After that you get to enjoy a quick downhill back to the parking lot via Curt’s Lane or continue on making more loops of your own. The possibilities here are endless.
