The town of Creede, Colorado, is a wonderful old mining town whose heyday was in the early 1890s when a huge vein of silver was discovered up Willow Creek Canyon. Creede is in the beautiful upper Rio Grande Valley just below the Continental Divide. The national forest campground at Marshall Park is an excellent base camp from which to explore Creede and the area.
Situated about 10 minutes from Creede on the banks of the Rio Grande, Marshall Park is a real gem. Several of the campsites are right on the bank above the river, and the cliff behind the river makes a beautiful backdrop. The sites are along a one-way loop road, and there is a short spur road with three sites for tents or van campers. Some of the other sites are large enough for big RVs or big family groups. Typical national forest amenities include vault toilets and a camp host, but there are no RV hookup, dump station, or drinking water facilities.
