Moraine Park Campground is the largest of the campgrounds in Rocky Mountain National Park, and it is a very good choice for a base camp to visit the park. It is very close to the Cub Lake and Fern Lake trailheads, and the huge meadow of Moraine Park itself is an excellent place to view wildlife, especially elk. Not far away are the Bear Lake and Glacier Gorge trailheads, which offer some of the most popular hiking in the park. The trade-off for this convenience is the sheer size of the campground and the number of campers in the area.

Moraine Park has several loops. The main road is Loop A, and Loops B, C and D branch off. The loops are similar, each having a variety of sites from long straight RV sites (RV length limit is 40 feet) to a large number of walk-in tent sites with parking areas shared among three or four sites. Generators are not allowed on D Loop. There are no hookups, but there is potable water and a dump station. The park shuttle stops just outside the entrance to the campground. This may allow for the option to leave the car at camp, though there are several shuttle routes and it may take more than one ride to get to your trailhead. The Moraine Park Discovery Center is walking distance from the campground, and there are ranger programs during the summer.

The campground is the park's only year-round campground, but sites are limited and they are all first-come, first-served.
