Weller Campground may not be the first campground you look to among the several campgrounds on Highway 82 between Aspen and Independence Pass, but it remains a convenient option when nearby campgrounds fill up. The largest of the area's campgrounds, and the closest to Aspen, is Difficult Campground, and a few miles further up is the much smaller Weller Campground. Weller's sites are all first-come-first-served, and one of its uses is as an overflow campground when Difficult is full. Being located closer to several trailheads and the magnificent Independence Pass, however, make Weller Campground a destination in its own right.

Weller's 11 sites are spread over a small loop road that winds through a beautiful aspen grove just off of the highway. Weller Campground has vault toilets and drinking water, and the sites are suitable for smaller RVs or tents. Less than a mile up the road is the popular Grottos Day Use Area, and even closer is the trailhead for Weller Lake and the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. The Roaring Fork River is across the road and is known for excellent fishing. Weller Campground, like the other small campgrounds in the area, typically closes near the end of September, so check with the White River National Forest office in Aspen before going.

Summer of 2016 saw this campsite listed as "camper only" - no tents allowed, because of some incidents with bears. I've camped here at Weller a number of times, it is usually very quiet at night. Normally the water quality is pretty good from the manual water pump.
