The enjoyable hike to Hemlock Falls is located near Lake Burton and just across from Moccasin Creek State Park. The trailhead is accessed after a short drive down a gravel road where you’ll find parking and what appears to be a campsite complete with picnic table, fire ring and pole for hanging food.

The 1 mile trail to Hemlock Falls takes off from here and follows close to Moccasin Creek for the entire hike. Along the way you’ll have several opportunities to veer off trail to enjoy the creek. As your work your way upstream and through the beautiful forest (complete with lots of rhododendron) you’ll soon come to a footbridge and a small waterfall.

Cross the bridge and continue as the trail climbs a little more steeply and nears the main attraction - Hemlock Falls. You’ll know you’ve reached the falls when the trail descends slightly to a large open area. Continue forward and you’ll arrive at the falls. Enjoy this lovely waterfall as it tumbles into large, clear pool of inviting water. This is a great place to enjoy a snack break before returning the 1 mile hike back to the trailhead.
