If your dream getaway is a quiet beachside yurt—come on, who could ever pass on that?—then Camp Olowalu should top your list.

Situated just 6 miles southeast from the bustling town of Lahaina, Camp Olowalu offers four different types of lodging, each serving up a unique and interesting experience. The six cabins on the property each sleep six people and are located within proximity of each other, making them great for big groups. The cabins each have a men and women’s bathroom with a shower, and there’s an outdoor shower nearby. Plus, each has exclusive access to the dining hall with a full kitchen.

The yurts, or tentalows as they call them, each sleep two and are surprisingly cozy. If necessary, two twin beds push together to make a king. Each has a private outdoor shower supplied by rainwater, a sink with a mirror, a private dressing area, solar lighting, communal picnic tables, barbecues, fire pits, and a dishwashing station. And, to top it off, pets are welcome.

If you’re traveling on a budget and didn’t care to schlep your camping gear across the ocean, Camp Olowalu has camping gear for rent. Be sure to specify at the time of booking. The spacious 35 campsites are a stone’s throw from the ocean and are privy to showers, sinks, barbecues, and picnic tables. RV sites are also available.

Kaho’olawe, Lanai, and several other towering peaks loom in the distance, and there are a number of hiking trails that depart straight from Camp Olowalu. On occasion the waves just out the front door can be great for surfing. Nearby Ukumehame Beach is a surfer’s best bet. Snorkeling and swimming off of the pebbled beach are good, with generally calm waters and plenty of lava rock to poke around.
