The Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Lagoon is a small wading pool that was constructed in the 1950s along with the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort, one of Waikīkī's most iconic hotels. The lagoon originally fell into disrepair, but a renovation project featuring a boardwalk lined with palm trees as well as a new circulation system has greatly helped to maintain water clarity and the overall beauty of the surrounding area. The pool is named after the popular surfer and five-time Olympic champion swimmer, Duke Kahanamoku and also offers public access to the ocean beach. Situated just steps from the Hilton Hawaiian Village and other popular Waikīkī resort hotels, the Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Lagoon has become a popular coastal destination for tourists and families. Be sure to enjoy the protected, warm, and shallow pool, which is great for small children and adults alike, or head over to the ocean side for some more waves.

The lagoon is almost always crowded with visitors due to its close proximity to adjacent beaches and resorts such as Fort DeRussy Beach Park and the rest of Waikīkī Beach. Parking can be very limited, so consider taking public transit or walking if you happen to be staying close by!
