At the end of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park's Chain of Craters Road is the parking area and short walking trail to reach Holei Sea Arch.

The arch is set at the edge of the lava flow where the crashing waves have undercut the stone. Upon reaching the road's end, visitors will notice a turnaround point and lots cars parked along the shoulder of the road. From this area, a quarter mile walk out on the closed road will lead to a viewing area.

Waves crash up against the lava stone cliffs, blasting through the arch if the tide is right.

Another benefit of making the drive to see the stone arch is that it gives you a view of the expansive terrain of the lava fields resulting from different eruptions. When looking down from higher up on the hill, it is possible to see just how tiny the band of road is in relation to the seemingly endless fields of black rock.

Some interpretive signs are located along the walk in. There are vault toilets and a couple benches at the trailhead however there is no water here. Be aware that changing conditions may make some viewing areas on the rock unsafe. The park will direct visitors to viewing areas deemed safe.
