Ho'okena Beach Park is a generally calm gray sand beach along the Big Island's western side.

The beach park has all the usual park amenitites - covered and grassy picnic areas, showers and bathrooms, access to a coastline that tends to stay more calm with a shallow beach area perfect for children, along with a campground.

The beach park manages to remain slightly off the beaten path, and it's likely you'll find more locals snorkeling and hanging out along the beach here than tourists. The park lies at the end of a traditional fisherman village, with canoes lining the beach that belong to the families who have lived in the quiet village for generations. Wreckage of a former commercial steamship pier also remains visible in the water.

The park is open for day use. There is no admission fee.

More information can be found at Camp Ho'okena's website, who manage the campgrounds and oversee the park.
