Kohanaiki Beach Park, sometimes called Pine Trees Beach, is a beautiful stretch of sandy beach located 7 miles north of Kona. The beach gets consistent waves, making is very popular for local surfers. And with the sandy shores beneath trees, along with all the park tables along the beach, coming out and watching the surfers also tends to be a popular activity.

The beach fronts a private golf course development, however there's no charge to enter the beach, just tell the guard at the shack you're here for the beach and they'll direct you.

Kohanaiki benefits from having the western shores emerald waters, within view of the peak of Mauna Loa. There are also historical structures along the golf course which can be visited while at the beach.

The shores tend to be a mix of rock and sand, and with no protection from reefs, the waves near the shore can be rough. Kohanaiki doesn't have ideal conditions for swimming or snorkeling. But surfers will often fill the parking area. There are quite a few small pools and ponds made by past visitors building small rock walls along the shore, which are good for kids or cooling off in.

The park also permits camping Thursdays-Mondays.

There are plenty of tables throughout the beach, along with trash and recycling barrels. A central bathroom has showers and water.

Kohanaiki Beach Park is open daily from 5:30am to 9pm. There are no lifeguards here.
