Kohanaiki Beach Park [add hyperlink], sometimes called Pine Trees Beach, is a beautiful wide stretch of beach fronting a golf course (just tell the guard you're headed to the beach and follow the road that skirts around the development's north side) that gets very popular during the daytime. But after hours, campers have the run of the beach to themselves.

Like other Big Island beach parks, camping here is not in assigned spaces, but rather on a first come, first serve basis for selecting your camp spot. And while the entire beach is open for camping, campers tend to stick to the section nearest the entrance as it has a lot of trees for shelter and shade.

Camping is permitted on the beach here, though the sand tends to be flat up around the trees a little removed from the water. There is plenty of space, so it's definitely possible to have some privacy from your neighbors despite this being one of the most popular beach park campgrounds on the island's western side owing to its beauty and proximity to Kona.

The beach park is closed nightly from 9pm to 5:30am so all campers must be inside the gate before 9pm. Reservations must be made online prior to arriving and shown at the guard shack when entering the beach, whereupon the guard will give you an overnight pass for your vehicle.

There is no water and only outhouses at the area popular for camping, though a short walk toward the center of the beach park will lead to a modern bathroom building with showers and water.

Camping is permitted Thursday-Monday weekly.

Camping fees are $21 per non-resident per night, $5 per Hawaiian resident per night, and can be made online at Hawaii County's website.

The beach park has 24 hour security. Sleeping in vehicles is not permitted - all campers must have a tent.
