With rough summer swells and plenty of tourists making many of the other beaches on the south shore of Kaua'i overwhelming, Kukui'ula Harbor is a nice secluded bay with calm waters and few crowds. The beach itself is relatively small, but it offers plenty of space for people to spread out on the grass or in the sand. Water quality may be impacted by heavy rains draining from the nearby river, so it is recommended to steer clear if there have been frequent rain storms. On a day with good visibility, sea turtles can often be seen grazing on algae or coming up for a breath of air. There is not much coral for snorkelers, but there are some larger schools of fish that take refuge in the protected bay. Those interested in swimming further out should be cautious of boats entering and exiting the boat ramp area to the left of the harbor. The mouth of the bay can also have some large crashing waves during the windier summer months. The manicured lawn behind the beach makes a perfect place for picnics, yoga, or playing. There is also plenty of opportunity to soak up some sun, as there is little shade at Kukui'ula Harbor Beach.
