Reeds Bay Beach Park is located immediately outside of Hilo along the scenic Banyan Drive, which is worth checking out on its own.

Reeds Bay itself contains a small bay with shallow swimming area and a grassy area popular with locals for picnics on weekends. The Bay has calm waters, and a sandy shore of mixed white sand and coral. While the water tends to stay more calm, the swimming area is also immediately adjacent referred to as the Ice Ponds, named for the cool spring water that bubbles up from the ground and mixes with the otherwise warmer sea water. The cove is also a popular spot for boats to anchor in.

Beside the parking area is a large lawn area. On weekends, locals fill the lawn with EZ Ups and gather to cook food. Though otherwise the park remains pretty quiet on weekdays.

The park makes a natural stopping point for those walking or jogging along Banyan Drive, guests in the larger Hilo hotels which are all situated along the road.

There are bathrooms and picnic tables at Reeds Bay, along with showers. There are, however, no lifeguards here.

Reeds Bay Beach Park is open daily from 7am to sunset.
