Alturas Lake is an alpine lake located just over 20 miles south of Stanley, Idaho in the Sawtooth Mountains. It is a bit smaller than it's northern neighbor, Redfish Lake, but has plenty of recreation opportunities and fewer crowds for those seeking something quieter.

The Alturas Lake Tent-Only Camping area is the first camping you'll pass when driving to Alturas Lake from Highway 75. It is only marked by a small wooden sign. There are four single and two double walk-in only campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis. Some of the sites are tucked in the trees and a few offer beautiful lake views.

Please note that you're camping in bear country. This means you need to secure all your food, cooking utensils, and garbage in your car or the secure dumpsters whenever you are not in your campsite.

The day-use area next to the campground can be used on a first-come, first-served basis if it's not reserved. For general information contact the Sawtooth NRA Visitor Center at 208.727.5000 or the Stanley Ranger Station at 208.774.3000.
