The Pettit Lake to Twin Lakes trail is a 15 mile out and back single track trail within the Sawtooth Mountain Wilderness. The hike features lakes, streams, and some creek crossings. This is a popular location for runners, hikers and backpackers. This out and back can be completed in a day or extended overnight as a backpacking trip. The trail can also be part of the longer Alice-Toxaway Loop route.

The trail begins from the Tin Cup Hiker Trailhead where there is plenty of room for parking. The trail gently follows the shores of Pettit Lake for about a mile and then enters the Sawtooth Wilderness. There are permits and a registration box at the wilderness boundary which must be completed for anyone camping overnight. The trail makes several gentle ups and downs before reaching Alice Lake, a popular spot to swim, fish and camp. Twin Lakes is about a mile past Alice Lake is equal in scenery but tends to be far less crowded. Numerous campsites provide space for backpackers, or day hikers looking to enjoy the afternoon by the water.
