Smokey Bear Campground and Boat Launch is located on the north side of Alturas Lake. The campground has eight single and three double sites, all with picnic tables and fire pits. If you're planning to do any fishing or boating on the lake, this is the campground for you. The boat launch on the east side of the campground is the only public launch for the lake, and it offers plenty of trailer parking.

The campground is first-come, first-served June through mid-September. There are reduced fees from mid-September through November 30. For general information contact the Sawtooth NRA Visitor Center at 208.727.5000 or the Stanley Ranger Station at 208.774.3000.

Please note that you're camping in bear country. This means that you need to secure all of your food, cooking utensils, and garbage in your car or the secure dumpsters whenever you are not in your campsite.

Alturas Lake is an alpine lake located just over 20 miles south of Stanley, Idaho in the Sawtooth Mountains. It is a bit smaller than it's northern neighbor, Redfish Lake, but it has plenty of recreation opportunities and fewer crowds.
