Tubbs Hill is a 165-acre park along the banks of Lake Coeur d'Alene just a short walk from downtown. The most frequently used trailhead departs from McEuen Park, where manicured lawns and picnic areas give way to a more natural environment. Tubbs Hill has a 2.2-mile loop trail that runs along the base of the hill as well as a direct summit trail that bisects the park and takes hikers on an easy climb to the top of the hill.

Along the shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene the loop trail runs alongside many spots that serve as great swimming holes for a refreshing dip in the lake. These are accessed by short trails that lead off the main loop trail. Over a mile of shoreline is accessible at the foot of Tubbs Hill, giving people looking for a private rock to lounge on or swim from ample places to use.

Heading up the Summit Trail offers a different perspective of the area. The short trail has many clearings that explode with wildflowers in the spring and early summer. Tall ponderosa pine makes up the majority of the tree canopy, along with some Douglas fir, grand fir and western larch. Birds of prey are commonly found in the area along with numerous songbirds.

Tubbs Hill is protected in part by generous donations from community members who participate as the Friends of Tubbs Hill. Donors who have contribute more than $150 have their names etched in a stone found at the trailhead. Tubbs Hill Foundation is still accepting tax-deductible donations. The area was pieced together by four separate land purchases from 1936 to a final addition in 1977.
