The campground at Fontainebleau State Park is large and spacious with options to suit any camper's need, and it sits walking distance from most of the park's features.
Fontainebleau State Park sits on 28,000 acres of land that once housed a sugar plantation built in the early 1800s by Bernard de Marigny de Mandeville. Areas of interest include hiking trails, wildlife viewing, large grass and pavilion picnic areas, a pier on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain, and water and park playground areas. The campground is a short walk away from the main park and set in an isolated area that isn't visited by day use park users.
With 143 total sites at this large campground, there are quite a few options for campers, including group camping sites, primitive tent sites, RV sites with a range of amenities that can include water, electrical and sewage hookups, and luxury rental cabins that sit over Lake Pontchartrain with waterside platforms for wading or launching watercraft.
Prices for sites vary from about $18 per night for primitive tent camp sites to $20 to $33 for RV sites depending on the amenities desired and the day and season. Note that pets must be leashed, stays are limited to 14 days maximum, and quiet hours are in effect between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
