Poverty Point Campground is located in Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in northern Louisiana just outside the town of Delhi. The campground makes a wide loop along the edge of Bayou Macon, with the main attraction being the Poverty Point Reservoir. There are 45 sites with full RV water, electric, and sewage hookups. There are nine “improved” campsites with water and electricity. Those who are tent camping might find campsites 43 through 50 more tent-friendly, as these sites back up into the forest and offer a little more privacy and shade. These improved campsites all have 10-foot by 10-foot raised gravel pads for tents. The campground is incredibly well-kept, which lends a friendly neighborhood feel to the campground. You’ll find the playground, bathhouse, and laundry room are all conveniently located next to each other. The bathhouse is surprisingly clean, and the showers are more than spacious.

The trailhead to Hard Bottom Trail is located right next to the bathhouse. Hard Bottom takes you down to the edge of Bayou Macon and connects with Jesse James Trail after just a short distance. Keep your eyes out for wildlife while on this hike!

On the south shore of the lake there are four two-bedroom lodges overlooking the south shore of the lake, each with an upstairs with loft. The lodges each sleep 10 people and have a full kitchen, bathroom, screened porches and open deck. Several of the lodges are connected via elevated paths that wind through the forest between the lodges. A covered boat dock is provided for lodge guests on the southwest shoreline across from the lodge area. Please note that pets are not allowed in any of the buildings, including the cabins and lodges.

Campsites can be reserved ahead of time or potentially obtained the day of if the campground isn’t full. Cabins need to be reserved well in advance during the busy season (spring through fall).
