Rutherford Beach lies near the town of Creole on Louisiana's southwest coast. Its isolated location ensures that it remains quiet, which is a benefit for those who do make the trip to its sandy shores.
Rutherford Beach lies a couple of miles down Trosclair Road, which passes through a protected marsh and bird nesting area, and it is common to see waterfowl while driving to the shore. The beach permits vehicles to drive onshore, though the soft sand means that passenger vehicles may want to stick to parking in the lot at the beach entrance.
The beach has a covered picnic pavilion with tables and grills along with two outdoor showers. An outhouse is also available in the parking area. With only a couple nearby homes visible, this beach does have a slight edge-of-the-world feel.
It is a featured location on Louisiana's Creole Nature Trail.
