In the picturesque Kennebunk area of coastal Maine sits a trio of diverse beaches: Mother’s Beach, Middle Beach, and Gooch’s Beach. Gooch’s Beach, also known as Long Beach, is the largest and most popular of the three beaches.
Sandwiched between the mouth of the Kennebunk River and a rocky outcropping called Oaks Neck, Gooch’s white sand and good surf draw many visitors in the summer months. From surfing and other wave sports to sunbathing, walking laps on the 0.6-mile length of beach, and fishing for bass off of the jetty in the busy Kennebunk River, Gooch’s Beach accommodates a variety of activities.
In the summer, dogs are welcome on Gooch’s Beach before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. from June 15 until Labor Day. From Labor Day until June 14, dogs are welcome all day. Dogs should always be within voice control or on a leash.
Parking in the area is very limited and by permit only. Parking can be found along Beach Avenue in parallel fashion all the way around Oaks Neck to the end of Middle Beach. Non-residents must purchase a permit at one of the parking kiosks along Beach Avenue. A day pass for a single vehicle costs $25.00.
Tip: Parking spots are usually plentiful before 10:30 a.m.
