One of the purist lakes in Maine, Sebago Lake is an ideal location for a kayaking adventure. As the primary water source for the City of Portland, the lake is clean and picturesque with alcoves, islands and a beautiful state park. The 28,771-acre lake was carved by ancient rivers and Ice Age glaciers and affords the adventurer many opportunities to explore. Choose a section of the lake for a day paddle or enjoy a longer trip around the lake with overnight stays available at Sebago Lake State Park’s campground or area rental cabins with lake-front access.

There’s a parking lot and an easy put-in at the boat ramp in the state park. Or use one of the public launches around the lake. Enjoy kayaking Maine’s second largest lake with its scenic woodlands and expansive views. When you’re ready for a break, one convenient place to land is the state park’s campground beach, just beware of the roped swimming area. Take a walk on the beach to stretch your legs or use the nearby restrooms.

For those who love fishing, Sebago Lake is one of the state’s deepest lakes at 316 feet, and it is filled with a variety of brook trout, black crappie, large and small mouth bass, white and yellow perch, as well as togue, or lake trout.

Visit during the week in the early autumn for a less crowded, peaceful adventure.
