Located in the heart of Rockport, Massachusetts, Bearskin Neck is a quaint village filled with various small businesses.

Bearskin Neck consists of interconnected roads filled with eateries and many small shops. Most of these unique shops display handmade arts of all different types and themes. At the end of Bearskin Neck, there is the Rockport breakwater, which is comprised of many large rocks. These rocks are shaped into a beautiful peninsula that overlooks the water and boats. At the breakwater there are also views of the Straitsmouth Island Lighthouse. However, this area can be very dangerous with its rocky surface, so should you decide to walk across these rocks, it will be at your own risk.

Also found at Bearskin Neck is the famous Motif #1. The Motif #1 is a red fishing shack that was originally built in 1840 but destroyed during the Blizzard of 1978. An exact replica was constructed the same year, which is what is now known as Motif #1. This simple red shack is often known as the most painted building in America and the symbol of Rockport.

There is very limited parking in Bearskin Neck. There are a few spots located at the Rockport breakwater entrance, although to get there you must drive through the Bearskin Neck. You are allowed to drive down those roads, but, with shops positioned on either side, it does get very crowded with people. Also, the parking at the Motif #1 is resident parking only. There are coin-operated meters on the main streets, which are the only options for visitor parking.

With all of the charm located at Bearskin Neck in Rockport, it’s a great summer destination. Shops, restaurants and views are just some of the many things you will find at the Bearskin Neck Village.
