Built in 1746, Brant Point Lighthouse was the second lighthouse established in Colonial America. Brant Point Lighthouse was also moved and rebuilt more times than any other lighthouse in the nation. Although the lighthouse has had a bad run of destruction, needing to rebuilt 10 times in its history, the latest model has been since standing strong since its reconstruction in 1901.

Visiting Brant Point Lighthouse is easy to do when visiting Nantucket. It is located very close to the downtown areas with shops, restaurants, and bike rentals. There is parking available at the main entrance, and then it is a short walk through soft sand to get close to the lighthouse. With soft sand filling the areas along the water, Brant Point is a great place to spend an afternoon sitting in the sun watching the boats pass. There are no lifeguards on duty, but you can swim in the waters as long as you are mindful of the boats that may be passing by.

Brant Point Lighthouse is much smaller than other lighthouses and also does not offer tours inside. You can, however, walk along its wooden walkway to the front door and view it up close. While visiting the Brant Point Lighthouse, you can also visit the Nantucket Shellfish Propagation Facility to see their shellfish hatchery.

Sandy beaches, calm waters, beautiful ocean views, and a shellfish hatchery all make Brant Point Lighthouse a great stop on your Nantucket adventure.
