The most popular beach on Martha’s Vineyard, South Beach is a great summer destination. With its south-facing beach soaking up the sun and warmth all day long and its clear clear rolling waves, it is easy to see why Travel and Leisure Magazine ranked South Beach one of the world's best beaches.

South Beach has soft, warm sand that stretches for miles, allowing plenty of room for the multitudes of people that venture here. However, because the sand is so soft, the hills one must walk over to reach the beach are a challenge to climb. While walking over the hill to get to the water, you can see the grassy dunes giving the beach its privacy. As you approach the beach you will notice its clear waters, and small rolling waves. This is great for either riding the waves or swimming. Lifeguards are on duty during summer months and keep the beaches and waters protected. Also, because the beach is close to the popular town of Edgartown, you can spend the day at the beach and then spend the night exploring shops and restaurants.
