The out-and-back hike to Morgan Falls near Marquette, Michigan is 2.8 miles in length. Most of this hike follows the gravel Marquette Mountain Road which is located about 3 miles south of downtown Marquette, off highway M-553, just north of the Marquette Mountain Ski Resort. There is ample parking on the west side of highway M-553 near Marquette Mountain Road. It has been reported that people have been ticketed for parking here, so it may be a good idea to check with the Travel Marquette Information Bureau for a clarification.

This hike begins on Marquette Mountain Road which is gated and closed to traffic from April 1 to December 1. The road passes through a mixed forest of conifers and deciduous trees. There are many maples in this forest which makes this hike quite beautiful in the fall. As you hike this road, you will see mountain bike trails that are part of an extensive network of mountain biking trails. The road has a very gradual elevation increase of about 130 feet which makes this hike suitable for most abilities.

After hiking about 1.3 miles, there is a sign on the left for Morgan Falls. You should be able to hear the falls from here. Take the dirt trail here down to a small bridge over Morgan Creek to view the 20-foot-high Morgan Falls. The confluence of Morgan Creek and the Carp River is just downstream from the falls. After exploring the area around the falls, return the way you came.
