The Yankee Springs Deep Lake Unit Mountain bike trail offers riders a natural feeling trail through the woods around Gun Lake. The staging area provides ample parking with changing rooms and a pit toilet. There is no water available at the staging area. The park also offers rustic drive-up camping, which is $13 per site with a Michigan Recreation Pass.

The trail consists of a 2-mile warm-up loop, which is as equally technical as the longer main loop. The distance of the main loop can be reduced with the use of shortcuts that are well-labeled throughout the trail. The trail contains countless roots, rock gardens and steep, slippery up-and-down sections requiring a moderate level of skill to ride safely. In the dry summer months, sections of the trail can have deep sand for stretches up to 200 yards. The trail is in its prime during the spring months before it dries out.

The Deep Lake unit offers spacious and quiet camping. Closer to the lake the sites are unlevel and sandy. Further from the lake the sites are grassy and nice. These are ustic sites so no electricity. Pit toilets. Tons of hiking trails. Deep lake is a no wake lake, great for fishing or paddling. No swimming.

Nearby Yankee Springs State Recreation area has a huge swimming beach, showers, boating, etc. Gun lake is shallow and clean. The campsites here are smaller and closer together. Tons of big rv's so not as quiet and nice as Deep Lake.
