Palisade Head is part of Tettegouche State Park along the North Shore of Lake Superior. It is easy to miss the entrance to this park, especially if you aren’t looking for it. However, this is a great way to spend a couple hours admiring the cliffs over Lake Superior, wandering around (as there are no defined trails), and maybe even spot a rock climber taking on a route.
The park is not incredibly big, but beyond the parking lot it is enjoyable to wander around and catch great views of the lake below. One can spot several different wildflowers and navigate the rocky landscape. Be careful no to get too close to the drop offs and keep an eye on the children. There is a radio tower that can help as a navigational aid to get back to the parking lot. Rock climbers can also be spotted from the viewpoint just beyond the parking lot (looking north).
Palisade Head is a great place to explore for a few hours while adventuring along the North Shore.
