St. Francois is nestled in the Ozarks Mountains of Missouri. You can easily pass right by this park without noticing it. This is one of the highest rated campgrounds in area, and is something that you should keep an eye out for. With its 2,735 acres, you will have a great time exploring this area, which used to be mined for lead; keep an eye out for signs on the highway pointing to the old mines. When you hike on the Mooner’s Hollow Trail, take a step back to an era when moonshine was distilled here. Overnight accommodations include 47 basic campsites and 63 electric campsites. Modern restrooms, hot showers, laundry facilities and a dumping station are in the campground area. There are more than 160 picnic sites scattered throughout the park. The Big River is enjoyed by paddlers, swimmers, and people that want to try their luck at fishing. The Pike Run Hills continue to be a refuge for rare plant life, wildlife, and tranquility. If you are ever in the area, you should spend the night and enjoy this remote park in the Ozarks.
