One of two large campgrounds near the west entrance of Glacier National Park, Apgar offers first-come, first-served sites (except for a few group sites). This is the best campground on the west side to leave the car keys in the tent or trailer. With a village that offers all kinds of services, a huge beach, and a dedicated shuttle stop, there is almost no need to drive once camp is set up.

Apgar consists of five loops set all in a row. The campsites range from tiny and close together to huge and private, but in general this is a pretty congested campground. This is a typical Glacier campground, with flush toilets, drinking water, and disposal stations for sink water. The group sites are quite large, though often populated with commercial tour operations.

All individual sites are first-come, first-served, and the demand is extremely high. “Tag stealing” (taking the tag off of a site that has been rented by someone else and moving in) is actually a thing here. Arriving very early, being nice to the harried camp hosts, and getting lucky are the only ways to nab a site here. Compared to Fish Creek, the other large campground on the west side, Apgar is not as nice or as quiet, but the nearby amenities and the availability without reservations would be a plus for many.
