Two Medicine is an area of stunning mountain views and glittering lakes in Glacier National Park that goes unseen by most visitors. It was formerly a key destination for tourists traveling on the Great Northern Railway. The trail to Cobalt Lake, a favorite of many rangers, takes you through a scenic mountain valley past waterfalls, slot canyons, and finally to the lake surrounded by sheer rock cliffs.

From the South Shore Trailhead, follow junction directions for Two Medicine Pass. After the third junction, cross a one-person suspension bridge over Paradise Creek. From your next junction with the Twin Falls Trail, head into colorful, open meadows. Take the short spur trail to Rockwell Falls for an amazing sight of a series of waterfalls that cumulate to the grand cascade of Rockwell Falls.

After a small break at the falls the trail begins to steadily gain elevation. Enjoy the views of Sinopah Mountain to the west, Two Medicine Valley to the north, and Never Laughs Mountain to the east. The trail does open up to a small, rocky platform by an unnamed slot canyon, and it later crosses by an unnamed lake that is barely visible through the trees.

Hikers staying overnight at one of the two Cobalt Lake campsites will find strong restoration efforts in effect. Be mindful of all restoration signs, and enjoy the views as the golden sunlight over the cirque fades to shadows and peaceful serenity.

If you are looking for more adventure, continue past Cobalt Lake and switchback up to Two Medicine Pass for scenic views of the greater Two Medicine area.
