Rising Sun is one of only two campgrounds along the east side of Going-to-the-Sun Road, and it's ideally situated to explore the eastern section of Glacier National Park.

Rising Sun is a moderate-sized campground set up in two loops. The north loop (sites 49 to 84) is generator-free. There are flush toilets, drinking water and a dump station. There is also a restaurant and small store adjacent to the campground. Sites are a variety of sizes and levels of privacy, and there are some partial views of the surrounding mountains through the tree cover.

True to its name, the sunrises can be beautiful from Rising Sun, and there are great hikes nearby, including the trail to Lake Otokomi near the campground. Boat tours on St. Mary Lake are available a short distance away, and there is a stop for the free park shuttle that covers the entire Going-to-the-Sun Road for access to dozens of trails.

As is true for most Glacier campgrounds, Rising Sun does not take reservations and fills very early every day in the summer.
