Sam Billings Memorial Campground sits just north of the West Fork of the Bitterroot River on Boulder Creek Road, and it is just a stone's throw from the Boulder Creek Trailhead. Surrounded by ponderosa pines, the campground has 12 clean and well-maintained free sites, and its main appeal is the location. With West Fork fishing a few minutes away and a trailhead so close, this campground does receive some traffic. All sites are free and first-come, first-served, however, so be sure to arrive early if you are planning to camp for the weekend. Weekdays are generally less crowded. Standard ammenities such as picnic tables and grills are available at each site, and there are several vault toilets as well. Of the 12 sites, one is suitable for groups up to 50 people. RVs are welcome, though there are no hookups or dump stations, and the maximum trailer length is 30 feet. No potable water is available here, and fire restrictions may be in place during the summer.
