University Mountain is a distinguishable peak that can be seen from all over Missoula. It is recognizable by its large radio towers at the top. The parking area starts on the University of Montana's campus. From the parking lot you're also able to hike to the "M" and Mount Sentinel. Walk east toward the Kim Williams Trail from the parking area and follow it for about a mile. There will be a distinguished trail on the right in between milepost 2 and 3. The trail becomes very shaded all the way until you reach the saddle.

Once you reach the saddle there will be signs for Crazy Canyon and Mount Sentinel. Go left on trail 302.2 and follow it all the way to the summit of University Mountain. The trail becomes very steep at this point, but it starts offering great views of Crazy Canyon, Hellgate Canyon, and the Rattlesnake Mountains. There are abundant wildflowers along the trail as well as deer and pheasants.

There are multiple false summits, but you will eventually reach the summit. It is denoted by its large radio towers. From here you can enjoy the views of the Bitterroot Mountains, the Clark Fork River, and downtown Missoula.
