Monte Cecilia Loop is a short and easy hike in Auckland. This hike travels around one of Auckland’s historic parks. The trail has paved sections and gravel sections. This loop is 1.1 miles long and gains 111 feet of elevation.
This hike starts from the parking area off of Delargey Ave. There are restrooms available here. Begin hiking towards the front of The Arts House Trust. This is the site of the Pah Homestead. Walk past this beautiful building for 0.1 miles before encountering a junction and heading right to start the loop counterclockwise. Hike downhill on a trail lined with mature trees. You will enjoy periodic views of One Tree Hill and Māngere Mountain. There are many benches along the trail that provide good places to rest.
After 0.3 miles of downhill trekking, you will be at the lowest point of this hike and the far east end of the park. From here, there is a wonderful viewpoint of the Pah Homestead atop a lush green hill. Continue uphill and pass a small wetland area. After 0.1 miles, you will come to a junction and stay left. An additional 0.1 miles will bring you to another junction. Head left here. 0.1 miles down the trail, you will start the longest section of uphill hiking. Trek uphill for about 0.2 miles to reach the backside of the Pah Homestead. Another 0.1 miles will bring you to the end of the loop. Head left and return back to the parking area.
Monte Cecilia Park is open for hiking year-round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail as long as they are on a leash. Monte Cecilia Loop is an easy way to enjoy some greenery in Auckland.
