In the early morning hours or nearing sunset, bluffs reach upward into a blue sky but somehow cast an appearance as if to be glowing from beneath as the sun bounces from the exposed stone. The bluff faces glowing in these golden hours is a sight to behold in the beautiful Fort Robinson State Park. Upon arrival the the remnants of the historic Fort Robinson are very apparent with a quaint, welcoming atmosphere. Guests can be spotted wandering the entrance area between rental units, the main entrance building, which houses a restaurant and gift store, and the stables. A large open space lays out a beautiful yard where soldiers would practice their formations and drills but which now serves as a place where children play.

The park houses miles of trails where hikers and horseback riders can witness white tail deer and pronghorn grazing in the pastures. Lucky visitors may even see a bighorn sheep that ventures through the park. The trails up into the bluffs offer spectacular views of sweeping valleys and distant bluffs. The beginnings of the Nebraska National Forest start in Fort Robinson and surrounding areas and extend eastward. Ponderosa pines tower and reclaim the bluffs transporting visitors from the stereotypical Nebraska experience. Fort Robinson State Park and Chadron State Park are quite complimentary parks, and although they may have many visitors at one time, their size allows for vacationers to still feel a connection with nature without the crowds.
