Of the two campgrounds in Valley of Fire State Park, the Arch Rock Campground is better suited for tents or small campers. The larger RVs will be better staying at Atlatl Rock Campground nearby. Arch Rock shares the same dramatic red rock setting as its sister campground, but it offers more solitude and an even closer and more personal camping relationships with the landscape. Some of the sites at Arch Rock are tucked away on a small loop, and these sites have a sense of total privacy where other campers are not visible.

The scenic loop road around both campgrounds is a great attraction that should be walked, not driven, to experience the amazing formations of red rock. Countless arches, caves, pinnacles and narrow arroyos present unlimited boulder hopping opportunities for adults and kids alike. Along this road, Atlatl Rock presents an excellent display of petroglyphs, with a tall metal stairway up to a viewing platform high above the road level. The namesake Arch Rock is a small arch about 20 feet off the ground along the scenic drive around the campgrounds. There are so many arches in Valley of Fire that Arch Rock is not a standout feature.

The demand in this campground is not in as high as it is for the more developed sites in Atlatl Rock, but it would still be a good idea to arrive early and midweek to improve your chances of getting a great site. Seasonal note: Arch Rock Campground is not open year around, so check on its status with the park headquarters at 702.397.2088 before heading out.
