Cave Rock State Park is a small area immediately south of the Cave Rock tunnels along Lake Tahoe's eastern edge. The park serves two main purposes: It provides a boat launch area on one end, and it provides a small, sandy, and protected cove of beach on the lake on the other end.

For boaters, the park has a double boat ramp on its northern side as well as more than 40 parking spaces large enough for boat trailers. The day-use area adjacent to the boat ramp has picnic benches as well as sitting benches above the rocky shoals along the lake's edge. At the southern end of the large parking area is access to a calm sandy cove. Here, the smooth waters provide an easy-to-access opportunity for paddling, swimming or snorkling. This area is great for families with children, though the sandy section is small, and it has a tendency to get crowded in peak season and on weekends. Above this cove is a flat area on the shoals that is popular for fishing. There is no fishing allowed in the boat launch or beach areas of the park. There are also a couple of picnic benches with grills. Flush toilets are in a building at the center of the parking area.

Park entrance fees are $10 per vehicle and $20 for entrance and boat launch. There is a manned pay station at the entrance with a self-pay station right behind it for times when no one is working.
