Dayton State Park

Dayton State Park is a 152-acre site that includes the Rock Point Stamp Mill site as well as a small variety of recreational opportunities along the banks of the Carson River in the town of Dayton, Nevada. Along with the Carson River Trail and the Rock Point Mill Trail, the park also has a 10-site first-come first-served campground and a day-use area with benches, a rental pavilion, and a few spots to find shady benches at.

The Rock Point Stamp Mill is a historical site that was originally built to process the ore from the Comstock Lode taking place up in the nearby mountains. Today, many of the stone foundation remains of the mill are accessible.

It should also be noted that the lack of maintenance at this park tends to overshadow its features. Trails are excessively overgrown to the point of being hard to navigate and follow, and the pedestrian tunnel beneath the highway accessing the mill site is often flooded, even during summer months. Following the Carson River flooding several years ago, the river permanently changed course, and the river trail doesn't directly access the river anymore.

Entrance fees for the park are $5 per vehicle. All amenities within the park are located around the bathroom and central parking area. The entirety of the park can easily be covered within a couple hours.
