The Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge is a relatively new yet iconic bridge crossing the Colorado River at the Nevada/Arizona border. While the bridge itself is quite impressive, the highlight of this destination is the incredible views down to Hoover Dam from atop the bridge.

Visitors wanting to walk across the Memorial Bridge will need to exit the interstate and pass through the security check (just like you’re heading to Hover Dam) where your vehicle will be subject to search. You can then park at the free Memorial Bridge lot. From here a paved (ADA accessible) trail leads slightly uphill to the bridge. You’ll pass a few informative plaques along the way.

Construction on the Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge was completed in 2010. It is the world’s highest concrete arch bridge (the Colorado River lies 890 feet below), and the second highest bridge in the U.S. after Colorado’s Royal Gorge Bridge. There is a pedestrian walkway on the northern side of the bridge, this is where the path you’re on leads. Although there is a tall concrete barrier between the walkway and the interstate traffic, the loud noise and high speeds of the vehicles driving across the bridge can be a bit disturbing.

The walk from the parking area to the far side of the bridge and back again is only a mile long. The stunning views of Hoover Dam and the Colorado River below are well worth it. With that said, this walk is not for anyone with a strong fear of heights. The sheer 890 foot drop to the river below will turn the stomach of perhaps anyone, but a steady guardrail is in place so falling isn’t really a concern.

While in the area be sure to walk across the iconic Hoover Dam, an experience that will allow you to get more up close views of the iconic structure.
