You are here
Red Spring Boardwalk is an easy, family-friendly half mile loop around a beautiful meadow area featuring Native American petroglyphs, views toward the red colored rocks of distant Guardian Angel Canyon, and of course the namesake Red Spring. Being located outside the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Loop Drive there is no entrance fee for this area, which is always a bonus!
The boardwalk begins by passing beneath some tall velvet ash trees, a great place for birding, before entering the meadow area. A clockwise walk will take you first to Red Spring. The year round natural spring is fed by snow and rainfall. Informative plaques located here and around the boardwalk provide additional details about the area.
The Red Spring area has been an important location for over 6,000 years. Native American pot shards, projectile points and grinding stones have been found here. Just a little further up the boardwalk you’ll be able to see some rock art (petroglyphs) left behind by ancient native cultures.
Once you’ve enjoyed the stroll around the boardwalk, return to the parking area where there is a lovely covered picnic area and vault toilets.
