River Campground is one of two campgrounds inside Rye Patch State Recreation Area, the other being Westside Campground, which has a slightly more central location but which lacks the privacy betweeen campsites and the shady trees that are present at River Campground. With 22 sites placed along two short loop roads, River Campground has parking spaces large enough for medium-sized RVs, but it does not have power hookups or water. The campground is set along the Humboldt River just below the outflow of Rye Patch Reservoir; as such, the sound of the waterfall at the outflow makes up a quiet ambiance throughout the campground, though access to the falls and fast-flowing section of river just below it is restricted. River Campground is in an area that is dense with trees that provide shade and privacy to the campsites, both of which are premiums inside the recreation area.
All camping is on a first-come, first-served basis. Camping is $15 nightly, or $20 with boat ramp usage fees. One vault toilet serves the first half of the campsites along the loop, while pay showers and flush toilets are located at the later half. An RV dump station is also located along the short road down to River Campground.
