Tamarack Beach is the middle of three adjacent campgrounds on the west shores of Walker Lake. The dispersed campground is operated by the Bureau of Land Management, and it offers next to nothing in the way of amenities. The lone crumbling asphalt road in shows that this may have been more developed at one time, but today only a single vault toilet and dumpster stand inside in the campground. Otherwise, there are no fire rings, benches, shade, running water, or any other comforts of any kind.

There are no large turnarounds, making this small dispersed camping area ideal for passenger cars. A single cluster of brush makes a spot for a group camp. Aside from this, cars can pull over and camp at any place along the crumbling asphalt and dirt roads. Due to declining lake levels, there is no vehicle access to the lake here.

Nightly cost is $4, or $22 weekly, which is must be paid at the pay station at Sportsmen's Beach Day Use Area and Campground located 3 miles south on Highway 95. Camping is limited to 14 days. The day use area at Sportsman's Beach also offers picnic benches and a boat launch, and nearby Twenty Mile Beach also offers more camping options.

The nearest groceries and gas facilities are located 19 miles south in Hawthorne.
