Jigger Johnson Campground is a 75-site wooded campground located along the Swift River. The campground is named after Albert Lewis Johnson, nicknamed Jigger Johnson, who was a well-known woodsman during the logging days of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Jigger Johnson spent his entire life in the woods, starting his tenure in logging camps when he was only 12 years old. When the logging industry declined, Jigger Johnson went on to work as a fire warden on Mount Chocorua and Carter Dome before spending some time at a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp and later becoming a trapper.

Open seasonally, campsites are first-come, first-served from late May through mid-October. Each campsite has a picnic table and fireplace, and amenities include flush toilets and accessible showers. Situated along the famous Kancamagus Highway, scenic vistas, great fishing, and hiking trails are just a short drive away. Hike to Champney Falls, climb Mount Chocorua, or take in the view at the Rocky Gorge Scenic Area nearby. A trail within the campground leads down to a pebbly beach beside the Swift River, which makes a great place to cool off on hot days. Another short path leads to the Russell-Colbath Historic Site next door, where you can visit the homestead or walk an interpretive trail.
