This adventure is a hike along the Appalachian Trail throught the northern section of Stokes State Forest. A shuttle car is needed. The hike can be done in either direction, however this particular adventure described travels north to south. Park a shuttle car at Culvers Gap parking lot in Stokes State Forest and then drive to Deckertown Turnpike. The parking are is in High Point State Park. Cross the road and enter the forest. After a short distance you reach the Mashipacong Shelter. Please allow thru-hikers on the AT to use the shelter.

After .7 miles the AT leaves High Point State Park and enters Stokes State Forest. There is no marker indicating this. Hike another 2.6 miles until you reach Sunrise Mountain. Just past that parking lot is a stone Pavilion which seems out of place. Great view both east and west at this point. Continue along the ridge for another 2.4 miles to the turn off for the Gren Anderson shelter.

There are more view points along the trail in another mile at the Culver Fire Tower.  After the fire tower, the trail begins to descend over 1.75 miles back to the Culver Gap parking area.
