Hungo Pavi is an Ancestral Puebloan Great House located at the mouth of Mockingbird Canyon within Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The short trail is well-maintained and mostly level, making Hungo Pavi the most easily accessable ruin in the park. The complex contains over 150 rooms, a great kiva, and a plaza. The trail winds through several of the rooms, giving visitors a chance to see the ruins up close. The trail also passes by an ancient stairway that was carved into the cliff, which is easiest to see during mid-day when there are no harsh shadows. Hungo Pavi is one of the few ruins that has been left unexcavated, which means that it is covered with native vegetation and wind-blown sand. However, it remains incredibly well-preserved and seemingly untouched since its' inhabitants migrated away in the 1200s.
